PISA RANGE ROAD ACCESS

Welcome to the Pisa Range Access Road. This is a high alpine road that is subject to severe
driving conditions at all times of year. Public access across the road is permitted.

Summer (September – May) – the road is not maintained or controlled.

Winter (June – August) – the road is actively managed 24/7.

The gate is kept locked in summer months, a gate code can be obtained by completing the below information and paying the road toll of $20 per vehicle. Please close and lock the gate behind you.

The 13.5km access road crosses an active farm. Stock will be on the road. Strictly no dogs allowed outside of your vehicle on the access road. Drive slowly and with care.

Arrival at the top:
You may park your vehicle in the area marked P on the map.
Access to the DoC land is via the Snow Farm Trails (Yellow line), or via the SHPG easement (Orange Line).

Closure – the road may be closed due to safety, operational, or maintenance requirements.
The access road has multiple hazards and is used at your own risk.

Rules of road use:

  • The speed limit is 60KPH
  • No dogs allowed outside of vehicles on the access road.
  • Please obey all signage and closures
  • All gates to be left as you found them
  • Do not attempt to enter any buildings, open any locked gates, or enter any private property. Cameras are operating.
  • This is a working farm, take care, and drive with caution.
  • The road is unsealed. Drive to the conditions.
  • Heavy vehicles may be operating at any time.
  • Look out for unmarked hazards, this road is not maintained in summer.
  • Vehicles must be prepared for all weather conditions. It can snow any time of year. Chains must be carried by all vehicles. If there is snow on the road, it is recommended you do not continue.
  • All rubbish and waste are to be taken out with you.

$20 Gate Fee - Once your payment has successfully processed the gate code will be displayed, please take note of it. It will also be emailed to you should you need it.

The Access Road management is administered by Southern Hemisphere Proving Grounds, by the authority of Cardrona Valley Farms.
